Do you feel utterly overwhelmed as a new online entrepreneur?
I had all the confidence of an earthworm being stalked by a bloodthirsty column of army ants when I began my online career.
I was Mr. Nobody. From Nowheresville. Devoid of confidence.
9 years later I am an island hopping pro blogger.
I learned how to gain confidence as a newbie and want to share these tips with you today to help you hit the ground running.
1: Grow Clarity Cajones
My worst online nightmares dissolved into dazzling online dreams through the power of establishing clarity with my blog and brand.
How it went down: 5 years into a somewhat successful online career I had to trash my old blog. I felt terrified at first. 5 years of work, a blog, 3,400 posts and various income streams down the toilet.
Instead of whining and complaining about my *old* online career I chose to begin my *new* online career from a place of clarity and confidence.
I created Blogging From Paradise after trashing my old blog. I teach people how to retire to a life of island hopping through smart blogging. I am ruthlessly clear on my brand, ensuring every single element on my blog only reflects the Blogging From Paradise core message.
No 3rd party advertisements. No AdSense. Nothing unless it had “Blogging From Paradise” stamped all over it.
It takes cajones to have this level of clarity but that same clarity helped me get featured on Richard Branson’s Virgin blog, Forbes, Entrepreneur, Fox News and the Positively Positive blog.
As a newbie online entrepreneur nothing gives you greater confidence than doing 1 thing really well.
You become even more clear and bold if your online brand perfectly reflects this intent, meaning your blog and business website have no fat, fluff or added junk.
Gain clarity. Do 1 thing really well for 1 ideal customer. Solve that customer’s specific problems. Let your blog and business site reflect your clarity by tailoring your online real estate to that customer exclusively. Be confident in knowing you will do 1 thing for 1 person.
2: Latch on to 1 Successful Mentor
Latch on to 1 established, experienced pro in your niche.
Follow the leader to become a confident newbie.
Pros know. Meaning pros know how to reach your goals. They have been through the wars. They know what works and what doesn’t in your niche.
Example; as a newbie blogger I learned from pros like Darren Rowse how to build a blog. Instead of worrying, fretting and flailing myself into blogging failure I moved boldly in the direction of my dreams.
If Darren built a 300,000 member community using these practical tips I knew these concepts would work for me too.
Following in the steps of successful folks gives you increased confidence for your online journey.
3: Invest Money in Premium Products and Services
Imagine trying to master any concept by studying free blog posts.
Then imagine yourself augmenting those free blog posts with online courses, eBooks and sessions with an experienced consultant.
My clients often hire me from an unconfident, confused space. 60 minutes later these bloggers are brimming with confidence and clarity. Paying a pro to access their storehouse of knowledge and experience gives you greater confidence in your journey.
You go from trying to hit a target while blindfolded to shooting fish in a barrel.
Pay for premium help. Courses, eBooks and premium sources are properly formatted, rich resources which arm you with the know how to better navigate a sometimes confusing, intimidating online world.
4: Create and Connect
Build your online business around 2 fundamentals: create, connect.
Sticking to the fundamentals gives you greater confidence. If you follow these proven basics you are likely to see online success within a shorter time frame, helping you gain confidence.
Create helpful blog posts, videos and podcasts to solve a specific problem suffered by your ideal customer.
Connect with successful entrepreneurs in your niche by featuring them on your blog, by interviewing them and by promoting them via social media. Help folks. Make friends. Those friends will promote you and help take you to places you never could have reached on your own.
It is easier to gain confidence when you help people regularly and surround yourself with supportive friends. Generous givers prosper mightily online.
5: Double Down on Mindset Work
Confidence is a feeling. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Double down on mindset work to get in tune with your feelings. Spending time in personal development clears away the unconfident, self conscious, shaky feelings you accepted from scared, fearful people, so confident, bold and clear feelings arise from within your being.
Spend your first 30 minutes daily either meditating, visualizing or building a gratitude list. Consider EFT tapping or maybe you can read a chapter of an inspirational book.
Most successful marketers follow a daily regimen to get their mind right for the day. Double down on mindset work to build greater confidence in yourself and your online venture.
