2017 was definitely an interesting year for online marketing.
We saw a rise in the silly trend of making heady income claims along with videos of the gaudy mansions and flashy supercars in the background.
As the year progressed, marketers seemed to tire of the this dastardly douchebag behavior consistent with a decade prior.
People began seeking real, authentic, practical business advice to create a prospering venture on a rock solid foundation of generosity, value, persistence and authenticity.
Evidence of the trend from style to substance was the whopping 225,000 plus views that the online success chats between Alonzo Pichardo and I have registered as of this writing.
Let’s look at some online marketing trends developing for 2018 plus some whack trends from 2017 that gotta go.
Exciting Online Marketing Trends for 2018:
Live broadcasts are the wave of the present and future.
Facebook Live, Periscope and YouTube Live broadcasts continue to gain steam because folks want to see the personality behind the online business.
Marketers need to hop on the live broadcasting board immediately. No better way to build an authentic bond with your audience.
Live videos bridge the chasm between being words on a screen and a being a real, living, breathing human being.
If people see you are human – just like them – you can build stronger bonds with your audience.
Marketers who connect with their audiences do quite well in their niche of choice.
Engaging on social media should make sense.
It is called “social” media for good reason.
2018 will be the year of releasing the “post a link and leave” social marketing methods of the past to make room for genuine engagement.
Going forward, more marketers will:
.Retweet fellow tweeters
.Respond to @replies on Twitter
.Comment on Facebook updates from their main stream
.Like Facebook updates
.Facebook Share other friend’s updates
Engaging on social media builds bonds. Connected social media marketers will drive traffic and business to their blogs through the act of authentic engagement.
Take a genuine interest in other people on social media. Other people will take a genuine interest in you.
See how nicely that works?
Genuine blogging will reign in 2018.
Lame, bland or outright sales-y blogs with zero engagement and little value will gradually disappear.
Bloggers who generously share helpful solutions through their free and premium content will dominate their niche.
Hop on this trend by buying your domain and hosting.
Commit to learning the skill of blogging.
Blog your passion. Study blogging by following a few of the top bloggers online.
Create helpful content. Build friendships with top bloggers in your niche by promoting them and by commenting genuinely on their blogs.
Build your blog on a rock solid foundation. Distance yourself from the herd of online marketers who foolishly try to build their cyber real estate on squeeze pages and social media alone.
Crap Trends from 2017 to Leave Behind
Heavy Emphasis on Income Claims:
2017 will be the year that the “rent a mansion/car/I got more money than Tony Stark and Scrooge McDuck combined so you better hop on my online opportunity now” type crap had its last ridiculous stand.
Genuine, kind, heart-centered online entrepreneurs who help you for free and premium will dominate the online marketing world, pushing these greedy or flat out desperate online marketers to the cyber graveyard.
Have you ever visited a doctor because the MD drove a Bentley?
Have you ever hired a lawyer based on the size of their mansion?
You want a skilled, compassionate doctor or lawyer. Word of mouth marketing based on the heart-centered service offered by the doctor or lawyer influences you to visit each; not their pay stubs.
The online world will soon fully embrace this same model of picking a marketing mentor. Folks will shrug off results as being the main driver to choose a coach. Instead, word of mouth marketing and observing a mentor offering a rich amount of free,
valuable, helpful, free content, without any strings attached, will inspire new online entrepreneurs to hire coaches or to buy their products.
The Instagram model who spends more time in infinity pools than Aquaman will have to show that they actually have ripped abs and how to achieve the desired 6 pack with in-depth workout videos – for free – explaining how to develop abs that can grate parmesan cheese.
Competitive Marketing Will Continue to Vanish
2017 seemed to be the year where competitive marketing struggled for its last few breaths.
Fearful marketers who greedily try to hold their secrets close to the vest for fear of losing money or business will continue to fail and eventually fade into online oblivion.
Trying to overcome, outfox or even compete with marketers in your niche was a silly trend over the past year that gained and then lost steam quickly.
Look for more creative, prospering, helpful partnerships between established online marketers, like the online success chats between Alonzo Pichardo and I.
Co-creators will rise above the competition in 2018.
What trends do you see developing in 2018?
What lame trends from 2017 do you see vanishing for good?
