As we reach the end of 2017 it’s time to look forward to 2018.
Although blogging seemed to grow into a higher energy activity this year, internet marketing took a step back in some regards.
Keep an eye out for these trends in both marketing and blogging in 2018.
1: Purging the Internet Marketing Poopy of 2017
Unfortunately, the internet marketing tomfoolery of a decade ago made its silly return in 2017.
But 2018 will purge the online puking of profit claims, flashy (often rented) cars and a funny but sad emphasis on the outcomes of running a “successful” online business so the genuine, heart-centered bloggers and internet marketers will be left.
2017 saw a rise in those absurd YouTube videos of marketers flouting cash, fast cars and big cribs to draw in the greedy, the desperate and the flat out ignorant marketers who want to finish the race without having any interest in running the race.
I look forward to 2018 being all about purging the internet marketing poopy of 2017. People will quickly tire of these fear-based, low energy marketing ploys to make room for legitimate, honest, genuine marketing strategies that focus on the fundamentals of creating and connecting.
As of this writing, the online business success chats between Alonzo and myself are collectively nearing 130,000 views between the videos. Folks are getting tired of the empty, value-less, hyped-up crap and are demanding substance, value, and heart-centered mentors more than anything else these days.
Out with the hype and in with the heart in 2018.
2: Live Broadcasts Will Be Huge
Live broadcasts are the wave of the present and future.
This form of marketing will take the online world by storm in 2018 as broadcasting games momentum through mediums like Periscope, Facebook and YouTube.
Video is in demand as is, but adding the live element to the mix creates a level of intimacy that you cannot readily re-create through other online channels.
More than ever, people will need physical, tangible proof that you are a living, breathing human being behind your blog, your brand and your internet marketing campaign. Proving your human-ness is easy through the channel of live broadcasting.
Solve specific reader problems. Be engaging, personalizing your live videos for viewers who join broadcasts and chat with you.
Building a loyal live broadcast following benefits you, your readers and your business and also positions you to work with big name brands, many of which are hopping on the live video bandwagon.
3: People Will Demand Engagement
I am floored whenever I visit a blog these days with no contact form or email address in plain sight.
I immediately leave these blogs, never to visit again, because if I cannot easily engage a fellow blogger I see an immediate trust issue manifest.
Would you dream of building a business without a customer service department? Of course not.
Your email address and a simple contact form are customer service channels through which readers can ask you questions, provide you with feedback and facilitate quick, easy engagement which builds trust.
2018 will be the year of trust in internet marketing and blogging.
Marketers will need to engage regularly through email and social media, responding in a timely fashion to requests, questions and feedback.
Bloggers will need to be particularly mindful of being easily accessible. Unless you have a massive, rabid following online and a successful online business associated with your name you better not put up barriers to entry. You don’t have that luxury until you become internet or offline famous.
Be easily accessible. Engage folks freely through a wide range of online channels.
Gain trust through the simple act of being easy to connect with and responsive.
Both your blogging and internet marketing campaigns are built on the core concept of engagement. People need to see that your online real estate is a 2 way street, not a 1 way broadcasting platform.
4: Creating and Connecting Will Be As Important As Ever
Thank the online gods that Google placed a huge premium on creating and connecting for bloggers and IMers over the past few years.
Getting on Page 1 is virtually impossible unless you create helpful, generous, targeted content persistently and connect with niche leaders by helping them out.
Online entrepreneurs will need to learn their craft, practice their craft, develop skills, create robust content through their blogs and through video. Cyber marketers will also need to befriend top bloggers in their niche by promoting these pros, by commenting on their blogs and by giving freely without worrying about getting anything out of each contact.
Creators and connectors will be rewarded. Everybody else will fade away, including the silly, greedy and desperate online marketers who have no interest in helping people.
What trends do you see emerging in blogging and marketing in 2018?
